In this video, a great white shark suddenly rushes toward the visitors' cage and gets its gills stuck between the bars. To free itself, it tries to move in every direction, which clearly makes the situation worse.
A short time later, it dies. For a shark to breathe, it must keep moving; that is how water reaches the animal's gills, since it does not inhale like a fish. So if the shark stops moving, it no longer receives the oxygen it needs.
So when it was trapped between the bars of this cage, it could no longer breathe, and it probably damaged some of its gills as well.
Maybe this method of tourist shark observation should be reconsidered to avoid other incidents.
